  • Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC)

    Published 06/09/23
    Dear Parents and Carers,

You may have seen recent media coverage regarding Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) and its use in educational settings. RAAC is a lightweight form of concrete; because it is weaker than regular concrete, concerns have been raised about its long-term durability. Department for Education (DfE) has recently changed its guidance to education settings on the management of RAAC to take a more precautionary approach and as a result areas in affected spaces will be vacated.

We wanted to inform you that we are not affected by this decision as we do not have RAAC in any of our buildings and therefore they will continue to function as normal. We understand that parents may want to understand more about the support to educational settings to manage RAAC safely. You can read more through the article published by the DfE on the Education Hub.

I hope that this offers reassurance.

    Yours sincerely,

    Phill Quirk

    Headteacher

  • Trip to Manchester College

    Published 13/03/23

Some of our Food Preparation and Nutrition students in Year 10 visited the Manchester College last week to experience the world of cooking and catering.

They met famous and talented chefs including Masterchef Finalist Exose Grant, who spoke about getting into the industry – it’s challenges and rewards.

Our staff and students were greeted with canopés and were shown demonstrations on cooking different dishes.

We hope this trip was a great opportunity for our students to have a taster session into the industry and perhaps inspire some interest as a possible career!

    Check it out

  • Food Preparation and Nutrition Exam Practical

    Published 10/03/23

Last week, our Year 11 students completed their Food Preparation and Nutrition NEA.

It was a great opportunity to put their skills to work and create something that could be served in a real resteraunt.

    The brief was:

A local café wants to update their menu to provide home-made nutritious dishes using fresh, seasonal ingredients. Research, prepare and cook 3 dishes (and accompaniments, if appropriate) that demonstrate your technical skills, are innovative and appetising, and would meet the menu requirements.
